A circular underground space, defined by six metal pillars and accessed via two entrances at different levels, flooded with light from a generous skylight and a wide glass wall, is the focus of a project transforming it into a private club within the grounds of the client’s villa on the outskirts of Saint Petersburg.
At the outset of the interior design project, the water, heating and ventilation systems were nearly complete, and almost all the walls in the building were load-bearing. As a result, the space could not be radically reconfigured; instead, the project focused on enhancing the existing structure by working with the curved surfaces of the architecture and refining their edges.
The main circular area is punctuated by six pillars, carefully reshaped to emphasize the natural curvature of the space and transformed into elegant decorative elements. illuminated by concealed lighting that lends the space a laid-back character.
Between the pillars, the interior unfolds gradually: a two-level stage, divided into three sections to accommodate musicians and performers; a staircase that follows the gentle curve of the wall, beneath which technical equipment and the stereo mixer are discreetly concealed; and a small yet inviting bar, nestled between a deep niche and a refined counter, forming a welcoming point of gathering.
A light and calming color palette, chosen to reflect the client’s taste, is combined with bold graphic black stripes oriented in multiple directions, emphasizing the sinuous curves and creating a whimsical yet refined atmosphere.
