When the clients, a young couple with a mutual love: France, contacted our firm, the exteriors of the house, a building realized in the beginning of the twentieth century, have been already completely renovated in French style, and so the realization of a new four pitches roof attic.

Renovation of the 1908 Khakimiya Mosque in Ufa. A design that harmonizes historical legacy with modern sensibility—respecting tradition while introducing a refined contemporary touch.

Our task was not to develop a project of the surrounding spaces (restaurant, supermarket, and shops), but to shape the central space and to design the points of sales, that the client had imposed to be octagonal, to reprise the motif of the curtain-wall of the building’s façades.

Fascinated by the natural monumentality of the timber structure, we chose to avoid hiding it wherever it was technically possible and to pair it only with natural and haptic materials like stone, wood, plaster and rough metal. The interiors are conceived as an archipelago of domestic oases, each one with its own peculiarity (materials, colors, atmosphere) but all surrounded and connected by a sea of peacefulness.

The imposing wooden building faces House FM and picks up the lines of its architecture and materiality. Despite the similarity of the two architectures, the clients, a family with three kids, wanted to have in their house something very different from the house of their relatives: an informal ambience, simple and organic, maximally open and filled with lights, where modern materials would be harmoniously combined with traditional.

House FM and MG merge on the underground level, where, surrounded by many hidden technical spaces, there are located a private spa with a pool, a hammam, a steam bath (banya), a massage room and two changing rooms, and a gym, a kitchen, and a cinema room.

The edifice, a large private traditional farmer house built in the beginning of 1900, in the heart of bucolic countryside, was converted in the nineties into a charming hotel and spa. The new ownership decided to renew the interiors of the building starting from their suites and appointed our firm to develop the design project.

Guest House AS
•
The guest house is located on the banks of Peipus Lake (Чудско-Псковское озеро), buried under the knoll that divides the wood from the meadow of the shore. The charming location of the building, on the margin between two different natural ecosystems, inspired us to interpretate the interiors as a threshold.
